“Bottom Line” Really Matters: How to Choose a Stainless Steel Container Fits You Most

How to Choose a Stainless Steel Container

The cylindrical stainless steel container is often used in the storage of raw materials and products and the mixing of ingredients in various industries. What do you value most when you make a purchase?

This column article focuses on the bottom shape of the stainless steel container.
There are various types of bottoms for stainless steel containers, such as flat bottoms, rounded or slant bottoms. And this article is recommended for those who are hesitating in choosing which kind of stainless steel container, or who want to know more about the merits of different bottom shapes.

Flat-bottom Type

It is a stainless steel container with a flat bottom with no unevenness or inclination.

It is used for the storage and transportation of various materials regardless of the characteristics or shape of the content.

Because it is the most common shape among stainless steel containers, it is easy to manufacture, and many manufacturers produce it, so it is cheaper than containers with other types of bottom shapes, and there are many products that can be delivered immediately.

Most flat-bottom containers do not have an outlet. When you want to discharge the contents, you need to tilt or flip the container. Although it is possible to customize the outlet, its discharge performance is not as good as other bottom shapes, so it is a good choice for the situation where the cost is limited and a little content loss is tolerable.

Angular R structure with excellent detergency

In the case of stainless steel containers manufactured by Nitto Kinzoku Kogyo, there is an R (round) at the rising part of the bottom, making it easy to remove dirt. Since the inside of the container is easy to clean, it can be used hygienically.

Example of a flat-bottomed product
Airtight Container (Clip Type) [CTH]

It is a flat-bottomed stainless container with a clip that can be easily sealed. It is used in various processes from storage of materials to transportation of finished products.

Suspended Sealed Container with Scale (Lock Lever Ring Type) [CTLB-M]

It is a stainless steel container that can be carried with one hand like a pail can. There is a scale on the side of the container, making it easy to measure and check the amount of contents.

Slant-bottom Type

It is a stainless steel container with an inclined flat bottom (slope) and a discharge port at the lowest position of the bottom. It is mainly used for the storage and discharge (supply) of liquids and is used for the smooth discharge of liquids after temporary storage.

Since the content liquid naturally collects at the outlet, it has an excellent discharge performance compared to the flat bottom type container.

The outlet is sideways and easy to connect to piping, which is a feature that other bottom shapes do not have. If you are working with viscous liquids, we could change the angle of inclination to improve drainage.

Example of product of slant-bottom container
Steep Slant Bottom Container with Legs [KTTX-L]

In the case of conventional single-tapered bottom containers, the inclination of the bottom surface is    3 °, while in this product, the inclination is 10 °. This product is effective not only for smooth supply but also for reducing residual liquid loss.

Hopper (Funnel) Type

It is a stainless steel container with an inverted conical bottom and a discharge port in the center.

It is mainly used for the storage and discharge (supply) of powders and granules.

Since the contents naturally gather at the outlet, it has an excellent discharge property compared to the flat bottom.

The angle of the hopper can be changed, and the eccentric type with the outlet at the end can also be manufactured, so that it can be manufactured with the specifications considering the characteristics of the contents.

It can also be used for liquid content.

The stainless steel container at the bottom of the hopper may be recommended even if the contents are liquid if you want to pour liquid into the device or mix when the liquid volume is few.

Example of Hopper (Funnel) Bottom product
Hopper with Dust Collection Hood Legs [HTD-L]

In combination with dust collectors and air transporters, this product can collect the powder that is blown up when the powder is put in. This device can also shorten cleaning time and improve workplace hygiene after powder injection.

Eccentric Hopper for Input [TEHT]

An eccentric hopper with excellent discharge performance. It is attached to equipment and tanks and used for material input. It is also possible to adjust the space and evade interference by other parts in comparison with a normal hopper.

Dished-head Bottom

It is a stainless steel container with a round shape like a bowl at the bottom (Head Plate) and a discharge port in the center. (* Some products do not have an outlet.)

It is mainly used as a container for preparing liquids for storage, agitation, and discharge.

Since the content liquid naturally collects at the outlet, it has an excellent discharge property compared to the flat bottom.

In addition, since there are convection currents at every corner so the content liquid can be agitated uniformly, it has superior agitation performance compared to the flat bottom.

It's also used in pressurized vessels.

Because the dished plate bottom is more resistant to pressure than the flat bottom, the end plate bottom is used for stainless steel containers that can be pressurized.

Examples of products with end plate bottoms
Dished-Head Type Container with Stand (with Agitating mount) [DT-ASC-K]

This product is equipped with a stirrer seat for installing a stirrer on the stand, and uses a stainless steel container with an dished head plate bottom suitable for agitation. The container can also be removed from the stand, providing excellent workability.
